I am much more familiar w/ the NJ surrounding area (Collingswood, Haddonfield, Maple Shade..).

I did not want to redo blacktop or remove the beautiful large tree that shaded the majority of the backyard. 

This one is shading hard to s**tbird.

A recent flip I did I painted the doors a darker shade of the wall color.

You can tell people about your goals just continue to be confident and know that there will occasionally be people throwing shade.
