This situation makes mine homeless. 

I think sometimes some social workers bluff landlords into thinking they need to take any disabled tenant or even a homeless applicant. 

But there is a "homelessness prevention program" in Durham that has paid the security deposit on behalf of a couple tenants.

The only issue I ever had with him is he would often let homeless people that he met through his church crash with him (yes in his tiny studio apartment with the giant cross).

More than once my husband and I have temporarily housed our future tenants for free because we are good human beings and could help a family avoid homelessness due to circumstances that were no fault of their own.

Either landlords are going to provide habitable shelter in exchange for rent or run a homeless shelter....pick one.

Her rent sounds a priority payment and if EVERY landlord were to disapprove every person with a credit issue, there would be a lot of homeless.

But, it's not your job to help him figure it out.Just so you know, if someone is about to become homeless, they can get free deposit money from local charities and organizations.
