If you're also interested in Tempe, I have only been through a little of that, but from what I've heard, south Tempe seems to have a better reputation than the area around ASU (think students... and parties).

The landlord just put the house up on the market and has informed me that they will be putting a lock box on the front door as well as will be showing it several time within the next few weeks alone on top of that a couple months ago I gave him my rent check on the 2nd beacuse the 1st was a holiday and the banks were not open he proceeded to hassle me and tell me that my rent check needed to be there before the first and am always afraid to do that simply because i feel he will cash it to soon he did that with my deposit cashed it 2 weeks before my lease started i guess that should have been a sign however i also was not told that in order to keep all rooms at a consistent temp of 65 I need to keep the thermostat at 75 please help any way out or am I on the hook?
