Drywall mud will be much easier for you to work with than Diamond (which is probably best applied by a professional).I'd try to knock down the high spots with a stiff-bladed putty knife and scrape off any crumbly or loose areas.

Instead of hitting the wall with a sledge try Sliding  a knife behind the tile or pry off with a larger flat blade, see how they come off.

You can just cut out that plywood or OSB (make sure the saw blade depth-of-cut is only slightly more than the thickness of the floor sheathing, usually 3/4 of an inch or a little more) in that area and replace it.

You need something 2-3' long, with some weight to it, and a flat thin chisel blade, so you can put some weight behind it, or use a 4-10# hammer.

Lavatories, buy a good wrist blade faucet and separately get a 0.5 gpm aerator.Kitchen sink, get a good wrist blade faucet without spray and get a 1.0 gpm aerator.Faucets, ceramic cartridges are great.
