It's not liked by most Building Departments because it puts substantially more occupants in a building and each with locked individual quarters and highly taken advantage by slumlords creating fire hazards.

We had a similar issue - typically $150 a quarter just went to $500.

Most home warranty policies would cover leaks.As far as what is acceptable, in my market (Milwaukee) nobody bats an eye on cast iron sewer pipes or clay tile sewer lateral.

I have some properties with old clay sewer lines where we just clean the roots out once a year.
