He was so proud, we would go to random dealerships when we traveled as a family so he could see the sticker, and see if there was any defects, or if they did any major alterations to his design at all(they still haven't 20+ years later).There is nothing exciting about what I just described.

Once in a while, you can identify a property which has a defect in title or even a defect in the title commitment (title companies rely too much on their 'title plant' and I always find errors).

I have had problems with contractors also...specifically, when I had a reputable plumbing company do some work in my home and a defective pipe fitting failed...the contractor that I hired to do the reframing and remodeling tried to get me to join him in a scheme to scam the plumbing company out of money during the water damage repairs.

Very generally speaking, liability insurance does not cover defects in construction (i.e. shoddy work), but in certain circumstances will cover property damage that results from that work.

Sellers don't always give true and correct information about their house, they hide things like mold, lead paint, water issues and other house defects - if the property is a hundred miles away - how do you make a decision to make an offer?
