It makes sense to be a bit more proactive, given this experience and your suggestions.I was so shocked by the butchering of this appraisal, I'm struggling to be angered by it - it's really that far off.

The property is higher end with bamboo floors, stainless kitchen, butcher block/steel covered bar, separate studio office/building, and a 7 person sunken hot tub.

This change has occurred in lock-step with the growth of suburbia.Elsewhere in the world you can find very livable cities - you go to your neighbourhood grocer, butcher, baker, etc - instead of making a pilgrimage to a 6-acre warehouse on the outskirts of town; your kids go to school in the neighbourhood rather than spending an hour on a bus twice a day {BTW: Public schools in many places are the better ones ;)}.  

Has any one had any experience with butcher block counter tops in a rental unit?

We did cosmetic work in the Kitchen where we added a large backsplash, swapped out the sink and updated the counters to some affordable but beautiful butcher-block and cement counters.

.- Price is going up, start feeding more heifers to butcher.

If you are selling it, one option is to price butcher block counters though with the price of wood, they may not be the cheaper option. 

The Kitchen is light and bright with gorgeous vaulted ceilings & updated shaker cabinets, ss appliances, quartz counters & butcher block island.
