I had been in restaurant industry in all facets for over a decade before getting into commercial r.e.When buying a business you do not want the assets and not the liabilities.

Each state is different and there are many facets but it's a great business if you learn it right and you can actually help people stay in their homes if you get into buying non-performing notes.

I've been involved in a lot of facets of the business  These include the development cycle (i.e. planning a shopping center or mixed-use building with retail, leasing it to anchors & other retailers, watching it get built, and re-leasing space 10 years later) to reletting existing storefronts.  

This is great source to learn and network in all facets of REI.
