Tell them if they don't allow you to move to another agent you are going to leave them all together.  2)  Interview some independent insurance agents as they will have the best options for portfolios of 10 locations or more.

For this situation, how would you navigate finding out information while interviewing tenants like: where are you from, how old are you generally, where did you go to school, what do you like to do for fun, do you have a SO who will be over often, do you cook a lot, etc.?

I know many big commercial shops tell you at the interview that you can't come to work for them unless you have a years worth of income in the bank because commercial deals usually move a lot slower.
