Consider being an entrepreneur and starting a business too.

I would argue that we we are real estate investors/entrepreneurs, not criminals, why would you not want people to know what you are doing?

@Kate Barry in my opinion, one of the biggest flaws that entrepreneurs in all fields have is trying to do too much themselves.

Whether you are car dealership, church, software company, whatever most are honest entrepreneurs and then there are occasional swindlers too.

When I started seriously considering quitting my comfy corporate job, one of my buddies, who has been an entrepreneur his whole life, asked me “worst case scenario, if you quit, could you get your old job back or get a similar job relatively quickly?”

I've been interested in real estate for many years now and have always had an entrepreneur mindset. 

If possible I’m trying to house hack my first house with my wife, who by the way has been a full time entrepreneur with her startup business since winter of 2018 so her income tax has been very low initially.

I am an entrepreneur by heart and I was the owner/operator of civil construction company specializing in water and sewer pipelines for cities, towns and municipalities around the state of South Carolina.
