Like you, I'm a car guy but rentals are much better especially if they can help you purchase the toys.

One thing will be a yearly toy fund that can be spent freely over the year and replenished once a year.

I have also been toying with the idea of buying a place and renting out the finished basement or bedrooms while living on the property, or buying a property just to rent out, maybe on a room by room basis to students.

You could rent out the whole house with an addendum allowing you personal use of the in-law x times a year for up to y weeks “while you are abroad” if you want to dot and cross is and ts 

Hi @Zane We have really been toying with the idea.  

I've toyed w/ the idea of getting some SFHs there as it appears the prices can, at times, be solid for getting decent cashflow.
