Hello,My partner and I are interested in a communal co-living property located on the outskirts of Detroit, MI.

This is going to be a little more pragmatic than what I usually offer around here, but I'd suggest walking into the communal bathroom of any college dorm for about five minutes early on in your decision making cycle.

Would it be possible to convert a SFH into seperate apartments by adding entrances, doors, walls and having a communal area for the kitchen and living/laundry room similar to a dorm style?

The other day I was reading an article on communal living stating that it was coming back in various forms (thanks to the baby boomers) and there were a variety of situations and commonalities that the tenants have.

I have a tenant in my 4 unit apartment building that's leaving the front communal door open.

Even as a resident, I never considered condos because of the high condo fees and communal lifestyle you are forced into.

The heat comes from direct-electric. communal water and sewer.

Once I get more properties a plan on creating a more communal fund, but this helps me sleep at night now.

The building does currently have a communal washer/ dryer.

Leaving any communal space or just the kitchen?
