You know, the U.S. government themselves tried to pass a bill a few months ago:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stop_Online_Piracy_ActIt was under the guise of protecting copyright, but it became abundantly clear very quickly that the rights it would have bestowed on law enforcement extended well past that goal, and essentially would have allowed the government to shut down entire domains based on alleged (not proven or judicial) infringement.
