Also get your hands dirty as often as possible, don't be afraid to tackle anything, and don't worry about screwing up because you will........ you learn most from your mistakes. :-)Taking a Home Inspector course is fine, but it doesn't teach you any trade skills, just how to see when things are wrong.

I also am deeply concerned about him tackling the foundation since when he says "he will have a guy look at it," I read that to mean this will be really amateur work and in no way will it be done correctly.
