I don't know if this will make you feel any better but even if the roof pancakes flat the interior and exterior walls should support that weight, even though (of course) the house will be totally uninhabitable until the entire roof structure is rebuilt.

It’s now actually very tempting to buy a gray stone or brick 2-flat and convert it to a single family. $650K in and add $200K for rehab then sell it at $1.2M.
