I have owned self storage ... my take away is its a business not an investment per seyou need them big enough so you can have on site managementor, if you live very close by and can run to it often and like to deal with the day to day.. that works.I found mine was in between.... and the ONLY reason it really worked for me and my travel and work schedule is because it was on the Columbia river and my tenants were house boaters who stayed basically for years or forever..

Looking over the course of the last decade or so, we have seen that path follow H Street NE going slowly eastward, then turning north into Trinidad, and now moving northwood through Brentoowd and Ivy City, and onward to Brookland.In another part of the city, we can see how it started in downtown/Chinatown, then moved northward through Shaw and Logan circle, then up to Columbia Heights, then to Petworth and now we see it moving into Brightwood and Takoma.

Some areas of Columbia seem to have promise (columbia is an hour from me), Greenville has some hype, and so does Charlotte, NC (both are a couple hours away.)
