Honestly has been something I have been wanting to do for years but I guess I was just comfortable where I was at.

Any thoughts on which way to go because we don't need the break in alarm but we definitely want video cameras to try and encourage the people doing rotten things to stay away.  

But, I would like to buy me a home to actually stay in .

They put 100k here plus here and there over dozens of deals and hope the portfolio average stays positive over time.I know I deal with very wealthy people on a daily basis and have talked to thousands of millionaires over the phone through the decades.

They would prefer to stay, but can move if needed.

They could stay there for a one bed, $1000+ per night for an island view or stay in my 2 BD / 2 BA with spectacular views.  

Think of it like, take a fixed return on your money, and stay silent, but do your due diligence on the asset.

While it's true that locking in rates for a longer term can seem counterintuitive during steep yield curve normalization, you can remove prepayment penalty altogether if you are comfortable with a higher interest rate.
