Well, you buy them and they break and you replace them (almost always especially the latest ones).Anecdotal, but old-style (ie ones with transmission) last about 3-5 years (depending on how much tenants abuse them).Latest ones, direct-drive and no agitator bar, seem a lot more reliable.
