That will help narrow down the questions - if an investment you'll focus on the high tourist area with major airports flying in/out, good local transportation system, less than an hour drive from the airport, a low crime rate etc.If personal then you'll look for an environment that suits your taste (tropical, party central, secluded, dive-friendly, luxury, affordable etc).Almost every island I've visited has realtors from America who decided to setup shop there and help out-of-state investors purchase property.

I'm in a similar situation as you, hailing from the Boston - New England area and looking into out-of-state investments.

I am a 2x house hacker just outside of Boston.

So proximity to public transportation and services is really important to them.

Hi Vikram - I am from Boston and have spent a lot of time in Hartford.

It impacts the cost of everything...food, shelter, transportation, health, recreation, labor.

Make connections with people by participating on the BP forums, going to meetups (@Andrew Freed has a great one in Worcester and I run one in Boston).

I lived in Boston, which was far too expensive.
