Mitch, the listing agent probably assigned a buyer's agent because the listing agent will be in a dual agency and many brokers will not allow their agents (especially new agents)to be in a dual agency relationship, while it is a legal agency relationship, it opens the doors to more exposure of liabilities for the broker.
