Then we ranked everything from 1-5. 1 denoted basic essential living expenses, such as food, property taxes, and such. 2 was for the almost essentials - things like phone. 3 was for non-essentials that we really enjoyed. 4 for non-essentials that we enjoyed a bit, but not really enough to justify the expense. 5 was for things which were a flat out waste of money, that served neither necessity or pleasure.
