What is the closest intersection?  

I decided to not pursue a career path directly related to Mechanical Engineering, so I now work for a large contracting company in the Washington D.C. area known as Whiting-Turner (the closest I could get to have anything to do with REI).

@Ann Bellamy The closest "major" city to me would be Springfield, but for some reason the BP site did not have that listed as an option.

All three responses you received are full of great advise.I would add to go to your local REIA and/or Meetup investor groups (which I believe closest to Roseboro would be a Fayetteville group) to go connect with local investors that are already having success in the multi-family space.  

Locate the REIA (Real Estate Investment Association) closest to you, join and attend and make new friends.

So you still need to go out to a pancake breakfast at the local Lions club, attend local high school sporting events, Steak dinner at the VFW, attend a play that the local drama club puts on etc.
