I am looking to set up a lunch, dinner or drinks with other investors in the area. 

I received a boxed dinner (turkey sandwich), a 212-page softcover book "Flipping Your Way to Real Estate Profits" by Scott and Amie Yancey, and two free audio CDs: "Flipping Your Way to Real Estate Profits" and a "Bonus Disk" : with two sections: (i) 2 Crazy Secrets and (ii) Scott and Amie Yancey-Commonly Asked Questions & Answers."

Plus, when you take inevitable trips to check in on the properties you can at least have dinner with someone instead of eating by yourself at whatever places are within walking distances of the Hyatt.  

When we moved to Arizona that dropped to Zero percent, nada, nothing, 0% That savings is a lot of dinners out at some very fine restaurants, plus it isn't grey and raining all the time ;-)

Hoping to find something that isn't a free-dinner-informercial but truly a tutorial in basics.

If your friend asks management, the manager will probably cite the lease as saying they are not responsible for the lost food costs.We are probably looking at $200 to $250 worth of food (at most), I'm assuming.Bologna, frozen chicken parts, frozen dinners, pop cycles, milk eggs, etc...Enough that a paycheck to paycheck person will feel the monetary blow.Tell your friend to go down to the local food banks and pick up some food for a week or two and eat like a king.Good Luck!

First, we're going to sit down over brunch or dinner or something to learn more about his investing goals--whether he wants to be active or passive, what kind of return he'd expect, and in what kind of time frame he'd expect that return.

You can get a decent feel for the area buy hoping on the freeway during "rush hour" and then grabbing some dinner/drinks during happy hour.
