Peel away is a good lead approved option for detailed woodwork.

The farthest I've gone is cutting, gluing, and trimming peel-and-stick veneer panels to size on edge pieces with a small router.

Instead of having to disconnect the planks to replace the damaged piece, you can use a heat gun to peel up the single plank and glue a new one back down. 

It includes closet door track not completely smooth, blinds not holding up well when pulled up half way, balcony floor has weather stains, two cabinet door laminate some peeling, etc.

In my personal opinion I would say that paint prepping would include just scraping back peeling paint, filling in any minor holes in trim with some wood putty, priming the surface, and painting.
