Hi Christian i am also from Albany and familiar with the area and surrounding areas , I am a realtor I also work with investors so I get it , I can help you out !

That said, here's my short input: Richmond has generally been a crappy city in the past (note: not the surrounding areas), however they've put a lot of effort into improving over the past 15 or so years and it's apparently a happening city.

I have developed a focus/interest around purchasing small multifamily units as buy and hold investments in the Charlotte MSA and general surrounding areas within North Carolina (given that is where I currently reside).I am at the point where I would like to soon begin actively pursuing my first deal.

I'm located in Denver, NC and primarily working North Charlotte and surrounding small towns within commute distance.

Might be better to move to one of the smaller towns surrounding DFW where there is perhaps less competition. 

It would be in one of the surrounding cities for sure.

@Robert Shedden great job jumping in...it took me 6 years to build up the equity and the knowledge to buy my next property "correctly"...surround yourself with a great team and you'll be on your way!

However, since they will be living under the same address, I’m not sure how much of a discount we will need to give to get the unit filled, if any.We are in an area that should continue to appreciate based on Atlanta growing and the surrounding areas investing a lot of money in infrastructure.
