If you were building from scratch, ideally all the insulation would be on the exterior of the wall assembly -;)We are presently retrofitting a wooden, Italianate building (circa 1878 - 1880) and on this one, I am using rock wool in the wall cavities (R22 where I can strap the inner side of the exterior walls and R14 in the places where I cannot (a long narrow corridor, rooms with elaborate plaster crown moulding we wish to retain).

At the end of the day your portfolio is only worth what the properties will sell for.For every investor  that makes money there are 8 or 9 that lose money and thats in a strong market.Most diyers are complete hacks, constantly cut corners like having lead based wooden windows in there rentals exposing young children to toxins and damaging there front cortex.

I should also mention that the seller has owned the home for 5+ years and so it was he who installed the wooden panels on the side.

Try washing a door with Murphy's oil soap and see if it look more "new", or "new enough" to re-use, and maybe think about just working with the cherry or whatever color the manufacturer put on.Also if the cabinets are not luxury to start with, the finish probably won't make them so, as because as others have said, they lack the special slow close drawers, dovetails, special cabinets, wine rack, moldings, etc...
