I'll be starting close to home for multiple reasons: I have to continue working my actual job for a while to continue paying my bills, I'll have to be pretty hands-on to cut expenses where I can (i.e. do demo myself, I can paint by myself, I could probably even do minor sheetrock repair which would leave cash for things like electricians or plumbers because those are things I know nothing about), and I'll want to learn general things from skilled trades people (how to spot potential issues, etc) so that I can make more informed decisions

.  :-) We figured we could save by doing some things yourself like painting, some demo, and acting as the GC on some of the projects like HVAC, Roof, windows and siding, then using a GC to coordinate everything on the inside.

My additional costs that I can sub out would include to complete the project; site work, demo existing foundation, new foundation installation, septic install, remaining 15% exterior on the roof/siding, landscaping, front porch installation, interior flooring, kitchen appliances, final coat of paint (delivered with primer), stair sets to basement, furnace & boilers along with installation, water tank & pump with installation, electrical (panel box set up, utility meters, electrical connections), plumbing connections.
