everyone so far appears to be against the paint option, what I have found from my experience is you can paint metal tubs with no problem as long as you remove the drain and paint under it when reinstall it, if they tape around it which most of them do, it will begin to peel from there, what I would like to know is what is the best cleaning chemical to remove the stain, as far as painting a fiberglass tub I have no experience with that, hope this helps. let us know what you end up doing because I also hate spending money I don't have to.

Tip: use a contractor that is familiar with laying VCT, because the best way to glue down the peel/stick vinyl planks is to put them down on VCT tile glue.

A lot of masked self-promotion can be had here but for the most part we're just a community trying to help.I've always bought off-market RE from distressed sellers (usually tired landlords or sudden transfers out) in my backyard, so I don't know about buying and rehabbing 18 states away.

Kevin Dee - my condo landlord (private owner) reglazed the tub (looked fine on move in afaik) and the bottom started naturally splitting and chipping/peeling off a few months later.
