What market/city are you in and what type of properties are you looking to add to your portfolio?

Cities tend to have diversified revenue streams and robust infrastructure, which historically have helped them rebound faster from fiscal shocks.

Howdy all,  I’m an architect and first-time house hacker looking at a Duplex in Oklahoma City.

Companies are unlikely to consider cities with high crime or cities with high operating costs.You will need multiple properties to replace your current income.

You might consider: Consulting a Real Estate Attorney – Your emails may possibly prove misrepresentation.Requesting Public Records – A FOIA request might reveal why the city denied you but later approved the duplex.Escalating to City Officials – Bringing this to local officials could expose inconsistencies.Exploring Tax Write-Offs – A CPA might help offset your financial loss, if it is possible.I’d definitely seek legal advice.

You wouldn't know if it is truly illegal or not without asking the city, which you would not do obviously.

To give some background, I am a 21-year-old engineering graduate and just started my first salary job ($80,000+), living in Salt Lake City, UT. 

Oakland has some ambitious plans to improve the city, and as rate improves, I firmly believe certain parts of Oakland will recover faster than others.

So you prefer to be in the side of town towards the larger city.  

I'm sure there are other meetups in Dallas, but I'm familiar with the REIA program that has chapters in most big cities.
