I'll take the Outlier's position.From a practical standpoint, accepting a DIL with a well-crafted agreement may make sense.

Landlording is pretty easy if you're careful about who you rent to and craft a good lease (I've self-managed my rental in Denver for 10+ years with minimal hassles).  

By learning about what THEY are looking for, you will (1) establish credibility, (2) be in a much better position to determine if that person is the right fit for you, and (3) craft an arrangement that has the best chance for long-term success.   

and yet too often the QI function becomes simply one of generic paper documentation without crafting a scenario specific to the clients needs/goals. 

@Troy FisherI think it would be really hard to craft a non compete clause for something as simple as a wholesaler working for you.
