I know when I troubleshoot older homes a lot of the problem is the general circuitry wiring for lighting and receptacles. 

I am trying to trouble shoot why it's not working for me.

Sometimes it’s smarter going to a trusted mechanic (that is a little more expensive) who knows how to troubleshoot and replace one part for less than the cost of a bad mechanic that will try a bunch of different parts.

Have you been able to get in the house to troubleshoot the water issue?

Learn to cold call, send mailers, talk to everyone, network, fill out contracts, determine values, troubleshoot problems, deal with difficult people, etc. 

I now try to troubleshoot stuff remotely.

I guess you could exclude things like heat or water leaks.Another strategy is to try to trouble shoot more over the phone.
