It's not always sexy, but if you put your head down, don't let others perceived judgements of you affect your behavior, and do the work you can make great things happen!

If an investor is not able to add value, passive syndication returns (mid to high teen IRRs) will likely equal or exceed the returns of active investing. 

Also, my dad invested in real estate and business all his life, maybe had a W-2 job in his late teens, and his estate is worth millions.
