I Have 2 roofers I’ve used that I’d like to give some business to,  but also have a GC for the inside work we’ve been loyal to as well.also should we try another GC out for a spare or stay with one we have worked with as long as his bid is competitive?

My GC isn't great so I probably would have need to ask the roofer and framers etc but you get the putting.

My advice is creat a project whether it's real or not and get pricing on that project and use that as a baseline so you can scale up or down as needed. also in order to get accurate estimates from contractors without going through weeks worth of back and forth it is best to know trade slang and the major factors affecting each trade ie drywallers will need square footage and finish texture or the fact that roofers bid things by the square(10x10=100sq ft).

Using a separate solar company required coordinating with the roofer and electrician but was worthwhile in the end to be able to finance the cost at some really cheap rates and I also had them finances the cost to re-roof the main home which was at the end of its lifespan.
