Turned out to be what was left from rats living in the attic from what must have been decades ago.Rat hair, dirt, feces. 

If the floor is covered in muddy boot prints or dog hair, take a picture first.And when you decide to charge something, charge it, share the list of charges along with documentation, and move on.
