Another option possibly, you could fur the ceiling out and sheetrock over it. 

With my investment specialization hat on, I'd keep it as a bedroom, but add a desk, etc, so you can work from home, but don't lose the bedroom that will help you either as a rental or resale, later.

@Jeff Hat I'm with @Mark Cerminaro on having gone through the pre-approval process with them but due to not finding a deal where I could make the numbers work given their terms I haven't been able to use them.

You need to feel that you can leave at a drop of a hat and never come back, or if you love your jobs and see yourself for sure coming back then take that as a sign of staying in SoCal.
