I am in exactly the same position - totally new to RE investing, and still in the learning/soaking up knowledge stage.

I had to till up the area and re-seed it to get grass in that area again.

Just soak up as much knowledge as you can then take action.

He is a Finish Carpenter, and for the last 6 months-ish or so we've done nothing but study, research, and try to soak in as much information as possible.

(REMEMBER THIS ALWAYS) You have greatness in you,(YOU ARE ALREADY CREATE LIKE THIS< WITH GREATNESS)  just like a seed. ( a seed) doesn't say I am just a seed, a seed has potential inside, it just needs the correct environment and timing and condition to become GREAT and ABLE to create fruit, It needs, Soil, Water, and correct temperature to grow (and time) .

I am 21 years old, and have been soaking us as much as I can about real estate investing, and general personal finance for the past 3 years.

But I still see my house as an asset seed, it's an investment that isn't cash flowing for me right now, but I've planted the seed and I'm going to keep watering it until it finally grows into a cash flowing investment. 

You will need to rent out your house or sell it and use the seed money to start your house hacking career.
