A private suit, not the DA, is the most efficient way to get the money back, although I would pursue both civil and criminal avenues.

I would agree with them in saying not to go to your local DA, but not cause of the fact that they will not fight for your money but for they are typically over worked. question did you have anything on paper written down to bind you in an agreement of sorts?
