Maybe places like fargo, salt lake city, jackson hole, bethesda, Charlotte, lehigh valley, etc

I'd really like a year-round destination, preferably near a lake and mountains (not really interested in beach properties).

The folks around Table Rock Lake seem to have it all with both the nature amenity and entertainment nearby.
