You don't need it if your "selling" it into the grid, but now your cutting returns via introducing an energy broker to the mix.

You could cut costs with mini splits. 

That doesn't cut it for me.

Right now I'm just getting the the edge of the water to get my feet wet so I'm unsure of which route I'd like to go just yet.
