The first thing an appraiser is going to do is look at public records and see the price that the home just sold for 7 months ago.

They're not trying to protect the data itself, AFAIK since the data is open as public records anyway.

There should be private groups that give people credentials to show the public that they know what they're doing -- then the public can decide if they want to only work with people that have that credential  (and I say this as someone who's licences)
