When he left that job (and you can only roll over a 401(k) to an IRA when you leave the company), he rolled everything over to a Self Directed IRA.  

Just what I needed as a newbie.I understand you can rollover your 401k to a self directed IRA and use these funds to invest in real estate.

Hie everyone , Tino here, im 30, im yet to get started  investing the plan would be to buy 4 unit "house hack" an roll over the savings into my next property , hope to buy this property in 2016.

I do have other self-directed retirement accounts but prefer not to use those for real estate.A) If I were to leave the company, what are my best self-directed rollover options that would allow me to invest in physical real estate (no REITs)?

I'm getting close to the point where I will be looking for "facilitators" (accountant; tax lawyers) that will help me roll over funds and set it up but I've yet to determine the best aspect of real estate investing to focus on.

You can rollover from that IRA to what is referred to as a self-directed IRA. 

Convert Rollover IRA to Roth 401k as soon as practicable.

If you don't have the time to rollover the unit, then it's best to hire someone who's already licensed.

Any recommendations on someone that can help me rollover my 401k to a self directed IRA?
