The STR doesn't provide access to rest of house as common area so they have their privacy mostly.I'm sure you can creative with extra rooms, a garage turned living space, ADU, a furnished basement, etc.Good luck!

@Jon L.Your questions 1 and 4 in the survey are not something a lot of investors would want to provide... breach of privacy etcFor your question in the post here about the most frustrating part, for me plenty of frustration around contractors... finding quality ones, finding ones that haven't taken on too much work to where they bring in inexperienced guys to cover their multiple jobs etc

I've seen clients live upstairs and rent out the basement on Airbnb, so you get the best of both worlds, privacy and your own space while the lucrativeness of Airbnb, so you can definitely live for free or close to it with this strategy. 3) Combo - you can easily do both strategies if you find a house with a walkout basement or separate entrance to the basement, and if you and your significant other are willing, you can Airbnb the basement and then rent out the rooms upstairs.

Documentation is very important, and sometimes an issue will pop up later and you will want photos to reference back to.I would also add to be conscious of the tenant’s privacy and remember that it is their home too.
