The trend I see with these stories is that someone bought a house in a 100K neighborhood and remodeled it into a 300K flip then had to keep dropping the price to get it to sell in the - 100K neighborhood.

Ultimately its up to you so do your due diligence on the market (see homes and get online and look at homes for sale that have been remodeled) and the remodeling trends (know what is trendy/unique vs. standard practice in your area).
