My own method was to have the contractor (his idea, too) put down a thin wood underlayment (adhesive or minimal nailing) then we went with linoleum on that (it was in kitchen/bath).

I'm dealing with three challenges: 1) roach residue in the kitchen cabinets 2) floor under the carpet is kinda gross 3) still not the best smell in the unitI contacted a company about what they would do and they wanted $150 for just an inspection and estimated treating the place (cleaning all surfaces, ozone machine, etc.) would cost thousands.

The biggest issue is with the adhesive containing asbestos and the difficulty removing that.

Maybe they would not fall off if you used a little construction adhesive on them and made sure the wall was really clean before adhering them.

powerwasher. that residue is hard to clean. i know because i used to have a small powerwashing business. there are chemicals that are harmless to plants/people, but super effective on that stuff.

And wood expands and contracts at a different rate that vinyl and the adhesive isnt a strong enough bond to hold up.

lol, you are correct though, the tape falls off leaving dried residue that doesnt come off.
