Unknown #1: Time selecting finishes.I would start with some kind of template: look here or online about colors that work, flooring and lines of lights and fixtures that will remain as thoughtless decision in the finish selection process.

I buy mis tinted paints in light colors and use them as primer , mix them together and use them to seal the wood and get the walls an even color . then finish with semi gloss white .

I would say, your best bet is to pain the units a modern greige color like Revere Pewter by Benjamin Moore.

What I have done, is laid out the flower beds and put in rich colored mulch to make them look nice, and you can still get all the trimming of bushes and trees and such done.

Make part of them postcards & try part of them letters.I recently read somewhere that all of the testing of color and copy doesn't matter as much as the repetition.Mike,I would focus on cost per lead including list cost as well as time required.

I've heard of people using 5"x5" stickers and putting them on dumpsters, at gas pumps, at bus stops etc.similar to bandit signs (they aren't flashy) but they put ur messages where people are. and stickers are smaller, and may last longer as hard to pull off etc.my personal idea with stickers is to get ones made that severely contrast the colors of the local (extremely popular) free weekly paper and put them on their boxes.
