About the only creature comforts we added were leather furnishings, a persian rug, good internet and cable TV, and a comfortable queen bed. 

Was furnishing the property and charging a bit more for longer tenancy worth it?

Came partially furnished.

I am doing this with one of my places in Vegas  its fully furnished and we remodeled it for ourselves so its not over the top but very nice.

Not sure if this is in the right place, since it's not a true BRRRR, but it closely resembles that...I own a rental in the Pensacola, Florida area (I live in Ohio, it used to be my primary residence over 10 years ago). 

The latest one we bought we are renting furnished and our returns are insane good.  

Soon after closing, we listed the house as a short term furnished home and have had great success and great ROI ever since.

If you purchase a STR in an established vacation destination, such as a Florida beach town or the Smoky Mountains, it often comes furnished and you don't need to worry about setting up your unit.In a metro area, however, this is usually not the case, and is something many investors fail to take into account when running the numbers on a potential STR.

Some places I post are Zillow ($10/week), zumper (free), Facebook marketplace, Airbnb (minimum stay 30 days, 50%+ more expensive, agree to furnish it with basics), and using turbotenant.
