There are no chain stores like Whole Foods, Smiths, Home Depot, Walmart, McDonalds or anything even remotely close to these places. 

We used all the resources that we could, pretty much as you said: thrift, amazon, walmart, costco, overstock, Ashley, wayfair etc.

Did the government say everyone can go to the grocery store or Walmart and load up on food and them pay for it next year? 

My only issues are that it’s 40+ miles to any large stores other than Walmart and groceries.
