I don't quite understand the american ideal sometimes; now here i go. i'm starting this because it was request, i understand we all come from different places and look at the same situations differently but please no name calling.There is so much intertwined here that its hard to unravel but lets take a look.

Looks like I'll be playing devil's advocate here as compared to most of the responses...There are a couple undeniable points people are making-- you can get a ton of info on BP, the Rich Dad courses have intensive amounts of sales pitches intertwined in them, and it is very dangerous to jump into one of those expensive courses.

Sharing utilities with tenants is common Chicago as the housing stock is often 100 years old and often utilities are so intertwined, it would cost you a fortune to have an electrician come and sort it out(which I did have to do for one property I own...it was a 10K expense to the electrician).

Logan A.Great question, but probably very complicated answer because the real estate industry is so intertwined with the rest of the economy.I'd say if you want to find the answer to this question, you need to pin down what aspect of the RE market you want to compare against the stock market.For simplicity sake, let's assume you care about pricing (appreciation).
