What I do is Sound proof the windows by covering the entire unit with fiberglass insulation and bring in the night crew.

Demo 5-6 rows of subway tile and cement board in the shower, pull up the fiberglass pan, have a new drain put in.

Remember to use fiberglass mesh tape on joints.cracks when you apply plaster and drywall compound!

We had it coated with a fiberglass material, NOT CHEAP, but that was >10 years ago & its held up very well given our snow load, freeze & thaw due to inside heat & then the CONSTANT rain.

Can you blow in some fiberglass on top of it?

If you have soft ducts (fiber glass, not sheet metal) for AC those could absorb the smell and have it return every time the AC kicks on. 

Their weight deformed the fiberglass shower pan just enough to cause a leak at the drain.
