My understanding (I'm not a CPA) is that if you plan business related tasks on Monday and Tuesday and plan on spending Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday at the beach, you can't claim the hotel expenses for Wed-Fri.

Backyard BBQ - make sure there's a spot away from the house siding and fence (if wood or plastic) with a level non-flammable ground surface.Fire pit - don't allow it and put this in writing in the rental agreement from the beginning.
